East of England Organ Day
Nathan Laube | Tom Bell | William Saunders | Andrew Cantrill | Prometheus Singers
Join us for a journey through American organ, choral and vocal music – from Sousa Marches and Bernstein’s celebrated ‘Chichester Psalms’, to Babbitt, Gershwin & Cole Porter!
The day will feature the dazzling American organ virtuoso Nathan Laube as well as RHS’s three staff organists, and the winner of the first London Organ Competition. The morning concert, ‘Stars & Stripes Forever’, will include patriotic organ fireworks, and the lunchtime vocal concert, ‘An American Songbook’, will feature the classics of Porter, Berlin, Kern, Sondheim & Gershwin. Bernstein’s ‘Chichester Psalms’ and the music of Eric Whitacre will be the focus for an afternoon exploration of American choral music, and Tom Bell will give a lecture-recital on the influential music of William Bolcom & Milton Babbitt. The 2017 Celebrity Recital will be given by Grammy award-winning US rising star Nathan Laube, making a special visit to Holbrook just for the East of England Organ Day. His programme will include music by Sowerby, Buck, Hampton & Healey Willan.
The Third East of England Organ Day offers a showcase of the best in American organ & vocal music. Book each event separately or, for the best value, buy an all day ticket for just £25 (lunch not included).
